March 15, 2021—General Motors has announced a new partnership with SolidEnergy systems, a developer and manufacturer of Li-metal materials, to improve the energy density in the lithium-ion batteries that power the automaker's electric vehicles.

The Verge reports that the two companies plan to build a test facility in Woburn, Mass. for a high-capacity preproduction battery as soon as 2023.

GM's Hummer EV currently has a driving range of 350 miles, but with upcoming advancements to its battery technology, it could leave competitors in the dust.
