Feb. 4, 2021—Baidu USA, an autonomous vehicle research and design company, has been granted a permit by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to test self-driving vehicles on public roads.

According to The Deep Dive, Baidu USA has been granted a driverless testing permit which allows the company to test up to three autonomous vehicles, sans drivers. The pilot project has been restricted to streets with speed limits of no more than 45 miles per hour. But, Baidu USA will be able to conduct testing anytime throughout the day, except when heavy fog or rain is present.

Baidu USA is only the sixth company to receive this permit, others include Zoox, Waymo, Cruise, Nuro, and Autox Technologies.
