Dec. 23, 2020—Audi is planning to enter the historic Dakar Rally with an electric drivetrain.

The Dakar Rally is an annual 10-15 day rally raid that is held in various locations across the world, and until now, has traditionally featured internal combustion engine vehicles.

CleanTechnica reported that while a fully electric vehicle would be impossible to compete with, given the lack of charging stations across the grueling terrain, the automaker is going to use its experience to test BEV components and apply what they learn to future Audi and Volkswagen models.
