Dec. 18, 2020—The Chief Executive of Volkswagen said the automaker expects autonomous vehicles to be for sale between 2025 and 2030.

Reuters reported that Herbert Diess, chief executive of VW, attributed the recent development to improved computer chips needed for autonomous cars as well as developments in artificial intelligence.

In 2015, Volkswagen was at the center of a scandal in which the automaker admitted to cheating emissions tests in the United States. Earlier this year, VW announced an $87 million investment into the development of electric vehicle technologies.
