Oct. 2, 2020—The United Kingdom announces its first commercial lab intended for test driving driverless cars in Oxfordshire.

According to Yahoo News, the Darwin SatCom Lab will look into ways of using 5G technology and satellites to keep vehicles connected. The use of satellites is being tested in an attempt to allow vehicles to operate safely in areas where mobile phone signal may be unavailable.

The lab is led by O2, a British telecommunications company, and receives funding in part for the U.K. Space Agency.
