Aug. 17, 2020—Nikola Corporation, a leader in zero-emission infrastructure solutions, announces an order of 2,500 electrified refuse trucks from Republic Services. Republic Services is the second largest recycling and solid waste provider in the U.S. and is recognized for providing sustainable solutions to its customers.

The refuse trucks are said to carry up to 720kWh of energy storage, an industry-wide record. Nikola's CEO, Mark Russell, said "This is a game changer. Refuse truck customers have always ordered chassis from truck OEMs and bodies from suppliers," but this is all about to change, according to Automotive World

The 2,500 units may be expanded to 5,000 when production begins shortly. Deliveries are expected for 2023 and road testing will begin in 2022.
