Uber Starts Mapping Washington, D.C.
Jan. 24, 2020—Uber's Advanced Technologies Group will start mapping Washington, D.C. before testing self-driving cars in the city, reported TechCrunch.
Three Uber vehicles will map the area. The data will be used to build high-definition maps. The data will also be used for Uber’s virtual simulation and test track testing scenarios.
Uber is collecting data and mapping in three other cities: Dallas, San Francisco and Toronto.
Argo, backed by Ford and Volkswagen, also started mapping the city in 2018, with expected testing of self-driving cars in 2019.
