July 1, 2020—A company called Momenta, which has major investment from Daimler, is setting a goal of 2024 to have a profitable, driverless taxi fleet.

TechCrunch reports that the highly valued Momenta specializes in autonomous vehicle technology. It's 2024 goal includes a ramp-up goal of having some autonomous units on the road by 2022.

The company is based in China and works mostly on the tech side of things. TechCrunch reports that Momenta relies on fleet owners to use that tech to deploy taxis. Lots of support must come from China's government as well to develop the 5G infrastructure to support widespread operation.
