June 25, 2020—Add rideshare data to the growing list of entries into autonomous vehicle development.

TechCrunch reports that Lyft is using data from its human drivers in rideshare trips to aid in its Level 5 self-driving program. The information helps the company produce 3-D maps, learn about driving behavior and improve simulations.

The test group also includes its own current AV test vehicles, as well as the support vehicles that follow them.
