BMW Commits to Evs, Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars

May 13, 2020—BMW will roll out battery-electric models, as well as invest in hydrogen fuel-cell car research which makes it one of a few automakers still focusing on fuel cells for passenger cars, reported Green Car Reports.

The OEM plans to invest $32 billion in research and development by 2025. BMW has been testing a fleet of prototype fuel-cell cars since 2015.

In 2019, it revealed the i Hydrogen Next, an X5 SUV that will enter production in 2022.

Honda, Hyundai, and Toyota currently sell small volumes of fuel-cell cars. Volkswagen has said that fuel cell cars does not make sense, according to the report.
