With Fleet Parked, Waymo Runs Simulations

Order Reprints

April 28, 2020—Waymo continues to operate simulations even while its fleet is parked during the coronavirus, reports Digital Trends Reports.

One day in a simulation is equivalent to 100 years of real-world driving. The majority of development work on any new piece of software is already done in simulation, before being released for use in actual cars.

Simulation gives engineers control over what situations the system encounters. Real passengers can also be simulated to determine how driving behavior impacts passenger comfort, according to the report.
