Tesla Releases Insights on Autopilot Data
April 23, 2020—Tesla's head of artificial intelligence (AI), Andrej Karpathy, released Tesla Autopilot data, reported Electrek. The data was released in part to show regulators how the systems improve safety.
About 3 billion miles have been driven on Autopilot. Out of the 3 billion miles on Autopilot, 1 billion were driven using Navigate on Autopilot, which is able to pass slower cars and take off-ramp exits by changing lanes.
The feature has performed 200,000 automated lane changes. And, 1.2 million Smart Summons sessions have been registered. Tesla’s previous ‘Summon’ feature was used by owners to move their cars autonomously for a few feet in their driveway or in tight parking situations. Through Smart Summons owners are able to summon their Tesla vehicles from further away and the cars will navigate more complex parking environments.
