April 20, 2020—China's Aiways, an electric SUV startup, has received patents and plans to make its autonomous robot charger a reality, reported CNET.

The autonomous robot charger, CARL, could wander around a parking lot and deploy when an electric car owner summons it. It would use GPS data to navigate to the electric vehicle and start providing the car with a charge while the owner only needs to take a few steps via a smartphone. Ultimately, the charger would provide fleibility.

Aiways is not the only automaker to look into an autonomous robot charger with Volkswagen revealing similar plans back in December 2019. The Volkswagen robot carries a battery charging pack called a battery wagon that houses about 25 kWh of energy each.
