KEYWORDS CEO court Tesla trial

Nov. 21, 2022—A board member for Tesla has testified in court that the automaker's CEO Elon Musk has identified a potential successor, according to Reuters.

James Murdoch is the board member who provided this information. He was testifying in court last week during a trial that pertains to Musk's $56 billion Tesla pay package from 2018.

Murdoch did not say say the name of the potential successor, but he did say that Musk identified this person in recent months. Murdoch did not go into specifics about how detailed this supposed succession conversation was.

Antonio Gracias is a friend of Musk and was a Tesla board member from 2007 to 2021. He testified about conversations to find an "administrative CEO" for Tesla. This person would take over sales, finances and human resources. However, Gracias said that this person was never found.
