Oct. 20, 2022—A plant for electric vehicle battery production will be built in St. Louis, Missouri.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the $400 million plant was announced as part of a $2.8 billion nationwide initiative that was announced by the Biden administration this week. ICL Group is receiving a $197 million federal grant to help pay for the 120,000-square-foot plant. It will be located on the company's current campus by Interstate 55.

This plant will be the first of its kind in the country to this scale. It will manufacture materials for lithium batteries. The first two lines will produce lithium iron phosphate cathode active material and will be completed by 2024 and 2025, respectively.

According to the Dispatch, this plant will add around 165 professional and union jobs.
