Maine R2R Coalition Gets Approval to Gather Signatures
Oct. 19, 2022—Auto repair and auto parts store operators in Maine have approval to collect signatures regarding a Right to Repair vote.
According to Fox 23, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows has approved a petition to allow these signatures, which will go toward support for the vote on the 2023 ballot. The Right to Repair in Maine would help repairers protect their repair rights for new vehicles.
The Maine Right to Repair Coalition released the following statement on Monday:
"We’re pleased that the Secretary of State has given independent auto repairers across Maine the go-ahead to collect the signatures needed to get this important question on the 2023 ballot. Car and truck owners in the state deserve the right to choose where to get their auto diagnosed and fixed. New wireless technology threatens that right by transmitting diagnostic data directly to the manufacturer and dealer. A Right to Repair law is critical. Without it, consumers will have no choice but to go to a more expensive dealership.”
