Oct. 3, 2022—Tata Motors has launched India's cheapest electric vehicle, coming in at around $10,000.

According to Reuters, Tata hopes this vehicle will help bring in more customers. Tata is India's only EV maker. The Tiago EV is an electric version of Tiago's hatchback. The price is 849,000 rupees, which translates into $10,370.

Reuters reported that most of the cars sold in India are priced below $15,000 USD. Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles as well as its EV subsidiary, said that Tata is not necessarily aiming to be the lowest cost. The goal, Chandra said, is to include as many features and advanced technologies as possible while keeping the price in an accessible range.

The electric Tata Tigor compact sedan is the next affordable EV in India at $14,940 USD. The cheapest version of the Tata Tiago EV has a range of 250 km on a single charge, and the most expensive version has a range of 315 km.
