GM Offers Buyout to Buick Dealers for EV Transition

Sept. 7, 2022—General Motors has announced that buyouts will be offered to Buick dealers in the United States as the automaker plans to go electric.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the buyouts are for franchise dealers who do not want to make the necessary investments that will be required as Buick aims to go all-electric by 2030.

There are around 2,000 Buick franchise dealers in the country, and all of them will have the chance to take this buyout, according to Global Buick chief Duncan Aldred.

The Wall Street Journal reported Aldred said almost every Buick dealer has brands other than Buicks. If dealers choose to take the Buick buyout, they could still sell other brands such as GMC.

Aldred will detail more of this buyout plan on Friday during a virtual dealer meeting call.
