Aug. 17, 2022—The EV charging has exploded in 2022, receiving $4.8 billion in investments from across the industry.

According to a report from The Detroit News, investment in EV infrastructure is gaining more appeal as potential stakeholders are starting to see charging as a "maturing asset class."

One of the single biggest investments was made by by Volkswagen and Siemens, which pumped $450 million into its U.S. charging network.

Per the report, BloombergNEF estimates that just under 75% of the money put into public chargers around the world in 2021 was used on ultra-fast charging infrastructure. Though that will continue to be the primary driver for EV charging investment, the industry as a whole will continue to attract global investors.

Financers and charging companies alike are "sifting through the EV charging field to find the right pieces to fill their technological and regional gaps."
