Tesla to Open Super Chargers to Other Vehicles
July 8, 2022—Tesla is planning to make its network of Supercharger EV charging stations available to non-Tesla vehicles later this year.
According to a report from the Verge, a White House Memo from the end of June suggests that Tesla is working on equipment that will allow most EVs to use its chargers, and it could be ready for public use by the end of this year.
“Later this year, Tesla will begin production of new Supercharger equipment that will enable non-Tesla EV drivers in North America to use Tesla Superchargers,” the White House states.
The move would be a significant step forward in quelling range anxiety for some EV drivers, as it would significantly increase the number of available public charging stations to non-Tesla drivers. Those drivers would still need to use the Tesla app in order to charge their vehicle.
