May 31, 2022—The Cadillac Lyriq, the first electric SUV from GM's luxury brand, sold out in four hours after orders opened.

According to a report from Kelley Blue Book, the ordering window for the 2023 Lyriq opened at 9 a.m. May 19 and closed at 1 p.m. A spokesperson for the company declined to say how many orders were placed but said the automaker had more than 225,000 shoppers sign up to receive an alert when the vehicle became available.

Cadillac says 70 percent of those buying the Lyriq are first-time Cadillac customers.

The automaker now has a preorder button on their Lyriq orders website -- those who click the button will be put on a waitlist and will either have the ability to purchase the 2023 model "based on availability" or will have the first chance to order the 2024 model.

They Lyriq starts at $62,990 and can travel up to 312 miles on a single charge.
