May 17, 2022—The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will add 30 electric vehicles at state parks around Lake Michigan this summer.

The initiative was announced last year by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as a way to encourage more EV drivers to take trips to those parks according to a report from Michigan Radio.

“The enhancement will no doubt increase the number of visitors at these parks, while providing convenience and significantly increasing the range for EV motorists,” DNR Parks and Recreation Division Chief Ron Olson said in a statement.

According to the report, installation will begin in June at the Warren Dunes State Park on the southeast corner of Lake Michigan before moving north along the eastern shore of the lake.
