April 6, 2022—Rental car company Hertz on Monday announced it will purchase "up to" 65,000 electric vehicles from Swedish EV manufacturer Polestar through 2027.

According to a report from CNN Business, the move follows an order of 100,000 Teslas the rental car company placed in October last year. The company planes to order the Polestar 2, a compact sedan and one of two models the automaker currently has available on the market.

"The partnership with a global pioneer like Hertz will bring the amazing experience of driving an electric car to a wider audience, satisfying a broad variety of our mutual customers' short- and longer-term mobility requirements," Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said in a joint press release. "For many of them it may be the first time they have driven an EV, and it will be a Polestar."

The Polestar 2 has an estimated 270-mile range on a single charge.
