Waymo to Offer Driverless Rides in San Francisco

April 4, 2022—Autonomous vehicle startup Waymo plans to start offering driverless rides to customers in San Francisco.
According to a report from The Verge, the Google subsidiary will soon make rides available to members of the company's "Trusted Tester" program. Right now, only employees are able to ride in the driverless vehicles, but interested customers will be able to join a waitlist to essentially get early rider access to the company's robotaxis.
The announcement comes just less than a month after Waymo received approval from the California Public Utilities Commission to provide paid AV ride-sharing services in the state.
Waymo has been operating driverless rides around the Phoenix, Arizona, area for more than a year, and according to the same report it will now begin to offer rides in downtown Phoenix.
