March 14, 2022—Volkswagen last week officially unveiled its ID. Buzz, the modern electric follow-up to its classic mid-century microbus.

The ID. Buzz will first launch in Europe later this year but won't make over to the states until sometime in 2024. According to a news release, the rear-wheel-drive bus will can go from 5 percent to 80 percent charge in about a half hour.

“The ID. Buzz is a genuine icon for the electric era," VW executive Ralf Brandstätter said. "In the 1950s, the Volkswagen Bulli stood for a new feeling of automotive freedom, independence and great emotion. The ID. Buzz picks up on this lifestyle and transfers it into our time."

The ID. Buzz will launch in two models: a standard passenger van and a commercial cargo van. Both models will come standard with the company's Car2X safety system, which includes emergency braking, lane keep assist and other ADAS systems.
