Jan. 4, 2022—Tesla delivered a record 308,600 vehicles in the Q4 2021, vaulting the EV manufacturer more than 936,000 total sales for the year.

Annual sales for the automaker are up more than 85 percent from last year, capping off a "jaw-dropper performance" for the year, which also saw Tesla reach the exclusive $1 trillion valuation club.

"This is a trophy-case quarter for Tesla as the company blew away even bull-case expectations," Daniel Ives, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, said in an e-mailed statement to The Detroit News.

Quarterly sales are, according to the report, "one of the most closely watched indicators for Tesla" as they are "seen as a barometer of consumer demand for electric vehicles as a whole because the company has led the charge for battery-powered cars."
