Dec. 20, 2021—General Motors has started shipping its GMC Hummer EV pickup to customers.

According to a report from CNBC, the new electric pickup is the first vehicle from GM to use the automaker's Ultim platform, which was developed in-house and is planned to be the primary skeleton for GM's electric vehicle lineup.

The release is on of the first tangible signs of progress in GM's push for electrification. The company is investing about $30 billion into electric vehicles through 2025. GM President Mark Ruess on Friday said during an interview with CNBC the company is "very excited" for its customers.

GM has not said how many Hummer EV pickup reservations it has received, though it has sold out of its $113,000 "Edition 1" models. The company will build 1,200 of those before making lower-priced units.
