GM Looking to Build EV Battery Plant in Lansing Area

Dec. 14, 2021—General Motors is expected to build a new EV battery plant in Lansing, Mich., and renovate its existing Orion Assembly plant as it continues to transition completely to EVs by 2035.
Though there hasn't been a formal announcement from GM that it is looking at Lansing, a report from the Detroit Free Press says "city records, a statement from the mayor and a source familiar with company plans" all point to the automaker looking in that area.
The source, who wished to remain anonymous, also said the company plans to convert its Orion Assembly facility in Orion Township to be its next Ultium EV plant.
Each project would require several billion dollars, according to the Free Press.
Lansing municipal officials say that no official decision has been made, and "other sites in other places could also be in play."
