Dec. 10, 2021—General Motors on Thursday announced it would begin production of a fully electric Chevrolet Silverado in early 2023.

The truck will be manufactured at GM's new Factory Zero Assembly Center, according to The Detroit News. The automaker's first electric truck, the GMC Hummer EV pickup, will begin deliveries this month. Both the Hummer and Silverado EVs will be built using General Motors' new Ultium platform.

"(2022) is a big year for us as we start to launch the first Ultium products," GM Executive VP Doug Parks said in a virtual chat. "Then in '23 you'll see multiple launches, and we'll be off to the races at that point."

The electric Silverado is one of 30 EV models General Motors plans to launch by 2025.
