Nov. 8, 2021—A General Motors-backed AV startup is seeking final approval in California to begin commercializing a self-driving taxi fleet in San Francisco.

Cruise officials on Friday said they submitted the last of six permits for AV deployment to the California Public Utilities Commission, according to a report from CNBC. The report says it’s unclear how long the review and approval process may take.

If the permit is approved, Cruise CEO Dan Ammann said the company could begin commercialization sometime next year.
