Toyota Unveils New Hybrid Tundra

Sept. 20, 2021—Toyota over the weekend unveiled its redesigned 2022 Tundra pickup and will produce a hybrid variant of the truck.
The Japanese pickup features a "far more rugged" redesign compared to earlier iterations of the the truck and will sport two 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engines, according to a CNBC report. The hybrid will be able to produce 437 horsepower, a significant increase from the 381 that the current model can reach.
“We took a fresh, transformational approach to our truck development and had to rethink many things we’d previously done,” Mike Sweers, senior vice president of Toyota’s product development office, said in a statement.
Though the Tundra doesn't have the ability to put up the staggering sales numbers pickups produced by the Detroit Three on a yearly basis, it has found some decent sustained success in the U.S. market, consistently selling more than 100,000 units annually.
