Sept. 20, 2021—Ford Motor Co. on Thursday announced it will double production of its 2022 F-150 Lightning.

With 150,000 reservations for the electric pickup, Ford will add another $250 million investment to its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center according to the Detroit Free Press, creating 450 additional hourly jobs. The plant should be able to increase its production output to around 80,000 trucks a year.

"We knew the F-150 Lightning was special," Bill Ford, executive chair of the board, said in a statement, "but the interest from the public has surpassed our highest expectations and changed the conversation around electric vehicles. So we are doubling down."

With the added investment, the company has put nearly $1 billion into its Michigan-based electric plant and has added well more than 500 new jobs.
