Sept. 2, 2021—Toyota confirmed it is producing a hybrid Corolla Cross subcompact SUV.

While no specific details about the powertrain or other specs have been unveiled, a report from Car and Driver says the Cross Hybrid "will arrive sometime next year, likely as a 2023 model."

Car and Driver speculates Toyota will offer all-wheel drive as an add-on for the vehicle with a similar setup to the Prius e-AWD model that powers the rear wheels with an additional electric motor at lower speeds. The publication also hopes the new model will have a more robust powertrain than the 1.8-liter, 121 horsepower engine currently in the Corolla sedan hybrid.
