Ford F-150 Lightning Reaches 120K Reservations

Order Reprints

July 30, 2021—Ford revealed Wednesday that it has surpassed more than 120,000 preorders for its electric F-150 Lightning.

The announcement came after the OEM released its 2021 Q2 earnings report, which showed the company had pulled in $561 million in net income, according to Tech Crunch.

According to the report, around 75 percent of those orders are from customers that are new to Ford, which "not only ... potentially affects Ford's sales, it also validates the company's recent forays into battery production."

"When we talk about upgrading our electric vehicles, it’s much more fundamental than just the investment in the tooling and the engineering of the electric vehicle and its components and propulsion,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said during a call with investors. “It also includes a completely new approach to an embedded software and hardware system.”

Farley added the Ford Maverick is already at 80,000 preorders.
