July 23, 2021—Electric vehicle startup Rivian will partner with Tennessee officials on an initiative to add EV charging stations at state parks.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation says its goal is to add charging stations to all 56 state parks in Tennessee, according to a report from the Associated Press. Installation of the stations could begin as early as this fall.

Charging will "initially be free," though users may have to pay in the future depending on system-wide use to "recover electricity costs."

Rivian will provide utility upgrades for charger installation "at no cost" to taxpayers, and it will cover "network access fees, equipment service and maintenance" for the next decade.
