July 21, 2021—GM on Monday confirmed it will offer a full-sized electric GMC pickup truck, the third such offering announced by the company.

The new pickup follows the announcement of the GMC Hummer EV and Chevy Silverado EV and comes as the latest project to come out of a $35 billion investment in EVs from the company, according to a report from CNBC.

The new model is expected to be a more practical pickup than its Hummer counterpart, though GM officials declined to say whether it will carry the Sierra moniker. The confirmation comes during a rush of announcements for fully electric pickups—Tesla and Ford plan to have EV pickups available by mid-2022, Stellantis announced a fully electric Ram for 2024, and several start-ups such as Rivian and Lordstown Motors also have plans for EV trucks.
