July 19, 2021—Registrations for new Teslas in California rose more than 85 percent in Q2 2021 compared to the same period last year.

The surge comes in large part due to the success of the Model Y, the brand's crossover utility vehicle, according to a report from Yahoo! Finance. Registrations for the Model Y jumped more than 700 percent in California, up to 13,581. Total Q2 vehicle registrations in the 23 states Yahoo! pulled data from was just under 47,000, with the Model Y accounting for more than half.

The report indicates that registration figures don't always accurately reflect total vehicle deliveries, as some registrations can take upward of 30 days to process.
