July 13, 2021—Jeep announced Friday it will produce a plug-in hybrid version of its Grand Cherokee for the 2022 model year.

According to a report from Kelley Blue Book, the announcement comes along with a plan from the company to produce at least one EV in every market segment in which it competes.

Not much information was made readily available about the new Grand Cherokee model when the announcement was made; Jeep released a single image of the new model plugged into a charging station and identified the model as the 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe.

Jeep already sells plug-in hybrid models of the Renegade and Compass SUVs outside the US market, and company executives also "promised electrified versions of its Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer large SUVs."
