June 29, 2021—Tesla issued a recall Saturday of just over 285,000 vehicles sold in China.

The recall comes after Chinese regulators said the cruise control systems in the Model 3 and Model Y can be accidentally activated according to a report from CNN Business, resulting in accidental acceleration.

The 285,520 vehicles recalled accounts for almost every car Tesla has sold in China since January 2020. The Model 3, which is made at Tesla's recently opened Shanghai plant, accounts for nearly 250,000 of the recalled units.

Per the report, Tesla apologized in a statement and added it would "strictly follow national regulations and keep improving our safety protection."
