Ferrari Unveils V6 Sports Hybrid

June 28, 2021—Ferrari unveiled a new plug-in hybrid Thursday, furthering its offering of cleaner vehicles.
The 296 GTB is the company's third hybrid offering, following the 2019 SF 90 Stradale and the 2020 SF90 Spider. According to a report from Reuters, Ferrari has promised a full electric model by 2025.
The new offering will feature a V6 mid-rear turbo engine, which although has roots dating back to the 1950s in Ferrari's racing cars, will be a first for Ferrari's road offerings.
"Ferrari and rivals also associated with powerful engines are wrestling with how to shift their line-ups to battery propulsion without losing the extreme performance that supports their premium pricing," the report said.
The 296 GTB is the latest in a series of moves Ferrari has taken to push forward into the EV market. Earlier this month, the company hired STMicroelectronics veteran Benedetto Vigna as its new chief executive.
