June 25, 2021—Sales of electric vehicles in the United States have continued a significant upward climb.

In the month of May, EV sales hit almost 54,000 units, more than quadrupling the 12,536 sold in May 2020, according to a report from Environment and Energy Leader. Sales were also up by 19.2 percent compared to April 2021.

The increase in EV sales has correlated with the increase in readily available charging stations and infrastructure. Per the report, "analysis of May 2021 federal data sets demonstrate that EV sales continue to accelerate at the same time charging infrastructure continues its coast-to-coast rollout."

Through May 2021, the U.S. had more than 46,000 charging stations and nearly 118,000 charging outlets.
