Tesla Sends Mixed Messages on Driverless Tech

May 7, 2021—A tweet from Tesla CEO Elon Musk saying that he was "highly confident the car will be able to drive itself with reliability in excess of human this year," this may be another case of false promises from the company.

Reuters reports that the company exchanged messages with the California Department of Motor Vehicles that undercut Musk's boast.

"Elon's tweet does not match engineering reality..." the message read in part. Tesla tech is currently at Level 2 automation, which includes some driver assist features but requires a fully attentive driver to do most of the work.
