UK Will Allow, Regulate Self-Driving Vehicles

April 28, 2021—The United Kingdom will allow and regulate self-driving vehicles at low speeds on public roadways, Reuters reports.
Government officials are working out the regulatory language that will include restrictions to a maximum of 37 mph. The government expects 40 percent of new vehicles to have self-driving capabilities by 2035.
Insurance companies are pushing for clearer, standardized language around the capabilities of self-driving tech at various levels. One industry researcher was concerned about the public relating lane-keeping technology to full automation, for example.
