April 8, 2021—The Swedish EV company Polestar is working toward a carbon neutral vehicle, from factory to roadway.

From supply chain to emissions, the company wants to zero out the emissions that it can control, reports Arts Technica. This is different from the prevailing tactic of carbon offsetting in auto manufacturing, which Polestar called a cop-out.

Ars Technica reports that about two-thirds of a gasoline-powered car's carbon emissions come from driving and burning fuel. For EVs, the focus is on electricity sourcing in manufacturing and other supply chain sources.
