Software Update Requires Dealer Visit

March 23, 2021—Carscoops has a report of an update available for a 2021 Porsche Taycan that won't be delivered over the air.
It is a free update, but it requires a dealership visit. What's more is that it might take a couple days to complete.
This will become more common as software updates in vehicles increase. Many OEMs are developing over-the-air update capabilities, but as Porsche demonstrates, there can be limits. It's not clear that Right to Repair laws, like that in Massachusetts, would allow independent shops to perform such an update.
